Solid wood sports flooring is a natural product that expands and contracts in response to changes in humidity even though the wood has been dried, cut and worked into the floor. It has the ability to absorb and release water through its cellular structure. In the winter, when the heat and the air dry, wood floors give off some moisture. When this happens, thin gaps may appear between the planks. To avoid these separations, try by controlling and monitoring air humidity levels during the dry season, or by arranging indoor gyms with good air circulation.
So, how should indoor gym wooden floors prevent the impact of seasonal changes?

1. Make sure the wood is properly conditioned before installation (and the temperature should be at normal levels during installation)
2. Make sure there is enough clearance when forming/molding the base. Same skirting board.
3. Make sure to install on wood that is approved as (e.g. do not install in wet environments, do not install below grade solid hardwood, etc.
4. Regular use of a humidifier/dehumidifier can help throughout the season, especially if there are large year-round humidity fluctuations.
